Counting Australia’s vines: Why a register needs more than aerial images

Australia’s new vineyard register is intended to collect data on the location, variety and size of individual plantings from late November. But while aerial images can identify vineyards, they cannot tell us what grows there or whether the information supplied by growers is complete.
